FAQ: Pop-up Blocker

A “Pop-up Blocker” is computer software that, once installed on your computer will prevent unwanted windows from appearing on your screen. This means, as you browse the internet, the pop-up blocker prevents new browser windows from opening.Blackboard 6 works with pop-up windows in many locations. It may be necessary to disable your pop-up blocker or set it to allow the Blackboard site to use pop-up windows.
Below are some of the more popular Pop-up Blocking software Packages, and how to disable them in order to use Blackboard 6. There are so many Pop-Up blocking software packages, if the package you are using isn’t listed below you can generally find, most Pop-Up Blockers install themselves either within the browser toolbar, or within the Windows Taskbar along the bottom right corner.
Microsoft Service Pack 2 (SP2)
With the release of Microsoft’s Service Pack 2, Pop-Up Blocking is now directly integrated into Internet Explorer. Note that by default Pop-Up blocking is Enabled within SP2.

Click on Turn Off Pop-up Blocker. Once this is done then you should be able to use Blackboard. When you are finished, you can go back and recheck the entry to re-enable your Pop-Up Blocker.To allow pop-up for the VCCS blackboard site you can select Pop-up Blocker Settings… The address of the website to allow is: http://learn.vccs.edu [1]. Once you click Add you will see the address in the allow site box. Click Close and you should be able to use Blackboard.

Yahoo Toolbar

To disable the the the pop-up blocker click on the down arrow to bring up the menu.
Uncheck the entry Enable Pop-Up Blocker. Once this is done then you should be able to use Blackboard. When you are finished, you can go back and recheck the entry to re-enable your Pop-Up Blocker.
Google Toolbar
Google has their own brand of toolbar that is very similar to Yahoo’s. It offers other features on top of Pop-Up blocking, and looks like the following:

To disable Pop-Up Blocking, right-click on the toolbar and a Drop-Down will appear with a listing of all of the Toolbars.
Uncheck the entry Google.
You will now be able to view the Program. Once this is done then you should be able to use Blackboard. When you are finished, you can go back and recheck the entry to re-enable your Pop-Up Blocker.
